Why do you want to lose weight? We want to go on a diet for a number of reasons. Some girls want to get fit and be like the models and celebrities they admire. Some people want to lose weight because they simply want to fit their old clothes again. Some lose weight for a permanent change in their lifestyle. We have different reasons on why we do these. Our general idea of weight loss is sometimes connected to being skinny and food deprivation. This misconception has cost us our health and money.
Today, in the blog, we will debunk some of the common weight loss myths that we have been accustomed to. We will try to find a scientific explanation on why we lose weight and correct our understanding of diet and weight loss. As one of the trusted medical weight loss program in Maryland, Just Lose Weight MD, just want to provide a safe and healthy way to be fit and fab.
Here are some common myths we used to believe about diet:
Myth 1: Weight Loss is about Willpower
We often think that we are fat just because that is what we feed our minds. And if we try to change that way of thinking by believing that we can be fit and healthy, it will eventually happen. We often read fitness inspirational quotes telling us that we can lose weight if we are determined enough to do it and we have the willpower to withstand all gym training and diet. However, a few months of intensive training, we may notice that we lost weight but we can never be as thin as that model’s body we are trying to imitate.
The science about why we lose weight but can never have the body of a model or celebrity is because our body type is different. According to www.authoritynutrition.com, “the body has numerous hormones and biological pathways that are supposed to regulate body weight”. If we have a natural voluptuous body, then no matter how hard we try to lose more weight, we can never achieve a skinny stature. That is just how biology goes.
Myth 2: Low Carb Diet is the Trick
Remember what your trainer often tells you, “eat fewer carbs”! For a foodie, this could be the most difficult part of losing weight. You have to let go eating pasta, pizza, and burgers not just for months but if possible forever. That is a nightmare, indeed. Although dietitians agree that low carb diet is really effective when you are trying to lose weight but that is a case-to- case basis.
But studies show that foods rich in carbohydrates per se are not necessarily fatty. You can still eat a small portion of carbohydrates paired with high protein foods. This can help you lose weight. However, if you eat refined carbohydrates that are commercially manufactured, that is when you are most likely to gain weight. Again, it is the refined carbs that will make you gain weight and not the natural carbohydrates.
Myth 3: Feast on Foods that Speed up your metabolism
We are advised to eat lots of pineapples, apples and all other fruits rich in fiber. Research shows that foods rich in fiber make it easier for our body to digest and dispose of it. This is actually true if we include these fiber-rich foods in our diet and they are natural fruits. However, there has been a lot of commercial products that claim to induce metabolism. We have to be very keen on this. We have to check their nutritional value as they could be rich in caffeine.
Myth 4: All Slimming Pills are Effective
This is true on most counts. There are a lot of commercially available slimming pills claiming that they can help you lose weight in a few months, weeks or even days. But if you got the wrong slimming pills, you might get sick. You have to make sure that the pills are approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The pills must be clinically tested and prescribed by medical experts like what we do at Just Lose Weight MD.
There are still a lot of weight loss pills that we need to debunk but the ones that we have discussed are the most important things that you need to know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us at Just Lose Weight MD. For details, please visit www.justloseweightmd.com or call us .
