The HCG diet restricts calories to a maximum of 500 per day. In addition to the limiting of calories, the diet requires HCG injections. HCG injections will need to administer regularly and the frequency of these will depend on the individual needs of the patient.

The normal procedure for the HCG diet is as follows:

  1. The first stage is the loading stage. On the first day or two, you will be loading with fatty foods. You will need to eat as much fatty food as you can to load your body’s normal fat stores. You will receive HCG injections on both of those days. The low-calorie part of the diet will start on day three. While in the low-calorie phase of the diet, it is recommended to eat foods that are rich, healthy, and nutrient-dense. 
     

  2. Stage two of the diet is where the weight loss happens. While you are eating a very low-calorie diet the HCG will stimulate the release of fat calories, up to 2,000 per day. You shouldn’t feel hungry because your body will be receiving adequate nourishment. It will be important to weigh your food and yourself on a daily basis. It is also necessary to avoid beauty products that contain oils. 
     

  3. Stage three starts after your last injection. This is the stage that allows the HCG to clear out of your system. You will need to continue the diet for three days. On the fourth day, you will begin a three-week program that involves a 750-calorie diet. This is a very important part of the diet and will help make the weight loss permanent. This stage is extremely important as your hypothalamus gland resets to your new body weight. 
     

  4. Stage four is the maintenance stage. In this stage, you will start eating healthy carbohydrates, again. You can eat normally and maintain your weight as long as you have completed stage three properly. A few months into this stage, it is recommended that you have some follow-up lab work to make sure everything is functioning properly.
